Half year costs review

We are half way through our travels and we thought it would be useful to have an overview of our costs, year to date.

We have been on the road for 202 days, just under seven months and have visited the UK, France, Spain and Portugal.

You will notice all our costs are in euros. It is easier to keep a record of them in this currency, as we spend most the time on the continent. To convert our costs incurred in the UK we have applied an exchange rate of £1:€1.28.

The total costs year to date adds up to €11,830. Our budget for this period totals €14,350, resulting in savings of €2,520 (17% of budget).

Costs year to day exclude exceptional costs which would have incurred otherwise had we not been travelling. These costs relate to Gary’s eye operation (€1,342) and the cost of a new mobile phone for me (€108), both have been reported in a separate column. The difference column and percentage column relate show the difference between the budget and the costs excluding exceptional costs.

Half year costs review

Overall, we have been under budget in all categories and we will endeavour to keep on spending at this rate.

Although I am hoping to make a few more inroads into that ‘Going out’ budget! GDR

Some of the countries we will visit may come up on budget or slightly over, such as Italy and Switzerland, mainly because of the exceptional activities we are planning to do, and the high costs of living in certian countries. This, hopefully, will compensate with low the costs we will incur when we travel around East Europe.

Not bad at all with the results so far!

Se ve que sois buenos economistas, eso que siempre surgen gastos inesperados , pero que ya tenéis previstos de antemano.
