Our costs in Macedonia

Dora was not wanted in Macedonia, so we let her behind again. Find out how much that cost us.

Macedonia was another country not covered by our motorhome insurance. So we left Dora securely parked in Kyustendil, a Bulgarian town close to the border and travelled in the same fashion as we did in Albania.

The total cost for our four day trip totalled €340. Our total budget: €284. This means we have been 20% over budget Surprised smileSurprised smileSurprised smile.

Macedonia has been the most expensive country we have been so far for several reasons:

Not travelling with Dora

Like in Albania, accommodation, public transport and food inevitably went up.

The length of the trip

The shorter the trip the less number of days the fixed costs get spread out over the total duration of the trip.

The living costs of the country in question

Public transport was more expensive in Macedonia than in Albania. €33 it cost us to travel around Macedonia for four days. €17 in Albania for eight.

Eating out was generally more expensive in Macedonia. The average cost per day was €37 compared to €22 we spent per day in Albania.

What we do in each country

Macedonia was all about sightseeing. Albania was a combination of both sightseeing and walking. Sightseeing costs money, walking is free.

What we buy in each country

Pearls are a traditional art craft in Ohrid. Interestingly, they are not natural pearls from oysters. They are made by hand out of fish scales and fish bones. Locals then make jewellery out of them. I fell in love of a pair of earrings that cost us €10! This is probably what has blown the budget, Gary may say, hasn’t it Gary? No comment! GDR They look beautiful.

On the positive side, we managed to spend less on accommodation than we did in Albania: €15 per night compared to €21. Sleeping in people’s houses is good value for money!

Tiene razón Gary por comprar los aretes fue el motivo de pasaros del presupuesto .
Por ese precio quien no tiene aretes de perlas, aunque no sean verdaderas.
